Hi all, I am Isshana Sivakumar and you are watching my channel, Just add Knowledge! What do you think is the most thrilling sport? Football, basketball, wrestling or do you think India Vs Pakistan cricket match is thrilling? Or Well, it’s none of these! Today in this video, I am gonna introduce you to sports that will make you fall off the ground and make your heart pump harder. So, hold your pillows tightly! Let’s get started!
1. Volcano Boarding: Volcano surfing or volcano boarding is a sport performed on the slopes of a volcano. Riders hike up the volcano and slide down, sitting or standing, on a thin plywood or metal board. Riders could fall and get cut by the rough volcanic ash, breath poisonous gasses or get hit by flying molten lava. Volcano boarding was the brainchild of Darryn Webb, an Australian who climbed the 2,400-foot high Cerro Negro in 2006 but was looking for a faster way to come down. One of the most popular places for this activity is the Cerro Negro near Leon in western Nicaragua.
2. Heli-Skiing: Heli-skiing is off-trail, downhill skiing or snowboarding reached by helicopter, instead of a ski lift. This sport involves skiers being dropped from helicopters on some of the world’s most challenging and remote slopes. In 1965 Hans Gmoser commercialized the activity in Canada by combining lodging, transport and guiding. In Switzerland there are an estimated 15,000 heliskiing flights each year to 42 landing sites.
3. Wing Walking: Wing walking is the act of moving along the wings of an aeroplane during flight. It originated as a daredevil stunt in the aerial barnstorming shows of the 1920s, and became the subject of several Hollywood movies. Variations on wing walking became common, with such stunts as doing handstands, hanging by one’s teeth, and transferring from one plane to another. The small plane moves at a speed of 300 km per hour as it performs turns and tricks.
4. Big Wave Surfing: It is a type of surfing in which surfers are towed into waves which are at least 20 feet on surf boards. In a big wave wipeout, a breaking wave can push surfers down 20 to 50 feet below the ocean surface. Once they stop spinning around, they have to quickly regain their equilibrium and figure out which way is up. The water pressure at this depth can be strong enough to rupture one’s eardrums. Strong currents and water action at those depths can also slam a surfer into a reef or the ocean floor, which can result in severe injuries or even death.
5. Free Solo Climbing: Free solo climbing, or free soloing, is a form of rock climbing where the climber climbs alone without ropes, harnesses or other protective equipment, forcing them to rely entirely on their own individual preparation, strength, and skill. Free soloing is the most dangerous form of climbing as free soloists climb above safe heights, where a fall can very likely be fatal. Though many climbers have attempted free soloing, it is considered “a niche of a niche” reserved for the sport’s elite, which has led many practitioners to stardom within both the media and the sport of rock climbing.
