The NBA’s restart operation amid the coronavirus pandemic later this month will be a defining moment of LeBron James’ career, as he will be looking to add a fourth championship to his resume. Many media outlets are reporting that James purchased some real estate.
Many indicated that the three-time Finals MVP purchased a $39 million, 13,000-square-foot mansion in Beverly Hills. In fact, so many people were tweeting it, included some pretty prominent journalists, I assumed it must be true, and reported the news myself.
Darren Rovell has been tweeting incredible 📸 of superstar mansions. The #NBA's LeBron James just bought this 13,000-sq foot #BeverlyHills property with a pool house, a lighted tennis court, screening room and seven fireplaces. It cost $39 million. pic.twitter.com/EtBpxPL5LI

The house is real. And it’s impressive. A lighted tennis court, a pool house that comes with two baths, seven fireplaces and a screening room where James can dissect film are just some of the amenities.
But the Los Angeles Times reported that the news isn’t true. Jack Fleming reported the superstar had not purchased a $52-million mansion. With all of the confusion, it raises the question, was this reported incorrectly?
To me, this screams conflicting reports and confusion. So I decided I would try and verify the story by going around the LA Times and ESPN. Who else would know who owned a giant mansion?
Architectural Digest.
Joyce Chen, from the Architectural Digest staff, reported on July 8th that the NBA star had purchased an eight-bedroom dwelling from The Bold and the Beautiful co-creator Lee Phillip Bell.
Though it was previously on the market for $39 million, it’s unclear how much James ultimately paid for the estate. He already owns two other homes in neighboring Brentwood.
