Adrian College athletics had another filled weekend with fall sports wrapping up their 2020 fall campaign and winter sports continuing to start their season. Women’s volleyball, men’s hockey, cross country, football, and club baseball all competed over the weekend.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The Adrian College women’s volleyball team played in four matches over the weekend. The team traveled to Manchester University on Friday and split with the Spartans. The Bulldogs went to Bluffton on Saturday and struggled dropping both match. Adrian was led by Blaire Weiman and Ayden Cribbs on Friday who combined for 25 kills during the two matches. Weiman, Cribbs, and Destiny Johnson led the Bulldogs in match two of Saturday collecting 24 kills. Katelyn Bergman recorded 10 kills and one block in match one.
CROSS COUNTRY
The Adrian College cross country team wrapped up its 2020 season with a pair of second place finishes at the Calvin Championships in Grand Rapids, Mich. The men’s team finished with 57 points and were led by a fourth place finish by Robert Diebold and a ninth place finish by Brett Carlisle. Diebold cracked the top-5 for the first time this season and Carlisle cracked the top-10. Emme Koutz finished first for Adrian on the women’s side with Mallory Bowker and Amy Adams followed. The women racked up 57 points to place second.
MEN’S HOCKEY
The Adrian College NCAA men’s hockey team hosted Team USA U18 NTDP on Saturday. The Bulldogs came away with a 5-3 win at the Arrington Ice Arena. Connor May got the scoring going in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. Nick Lund and Trevor Coykendall recorded goals in the second period for Adrian to go into the third period tied 3-3. Zach Goberis scored early in the third period on a power play, and sealed the deal later with an empty net goal. Cam Gray finished with 26 in goal allowing three goals. Nineteen NHL scouts came to the game representing 13 teams.
FOOTBALL
The Adrian College football team traveled to Bluffton University on Saturday and lost 28-21. The Bulldogs trailed 14-0 after the first quarter, but responded in the second and third to tie things up at 14-14. Bluffton went on to score two unanswered touchdowns before Steven Moses answered with a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Jack Wurzer threw for 253 yards for the Bulldogs with 158 of those yards being caught by Preston Smith. Moses rushed for 159 yards on 29 attempts with three touchdowns.
CLUB BASEBALL
The Adrian College club baseball team struggled over the weekend against the Siena Heights JV team. During the Saturday doubleheader, the Bulldogs lost 9-5 and 5-1.
UPCOMING EVENTS
The Bulldogs are back in action starting on Thursday, October 29. The Bass Fishing team with travel to Florida for the weekend to compete in the Collegiate National Championships. ACHA MD1 will host Indiana Tech at 7PM on Thursday followed by a road game on Friday. The NCAA men’s hockey team will host Trine University on Friday night. ACHA MD2 will travel to Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday and Sunday while the NCAA women’s hockey team opens its season with an exhibition against the Meijer U19 team on Saturday followed by an afternoon game against Trine on Sunday.
