BURLINGTON, Vt. | NSBNsports.com | August 14, 2026 — Former Adrian College head coach Adam Krug has joined the Vermont men’s hockey staff as associate head coach, Catamounts head coach Steve Wiedler announced Friday.
Krug arrives at Vermont after spending two seasons as an assistant coach with the Bakersfield Condors, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers. He primarily worked with the team’s forwards and power play.
“This is a home run hire for our program,” Wiedler said. “His AHL experience, NCAA championship pedigree, ability to build relationships with and develop players is at the top tier of our profession.”
With Bakersfield, Krug assisted in the development of 2025 AHL All-Star Matthew Savoie and Noah Philp, who appeared in 30 games with Edmonton during the past year. James Hamblin scored a career-high 27 goals in 2025-26, while Viljami Marjala finished among the AHL’s top 10 in assists.
Krug previously spent 10 seasons as the head coach at Adrian, compiling a 229-52-14 record and an .800 winning percentage. He led the Bulldogs to eight NCAA Tournament appearances, five Northern Collegiate Hockey Association championships and the 2022 NCAA Division III national championship.
Krug was selected as the NCHA Coach of the Year six times and received the Edward Jeremiah Award as the NCAA Division III Coach of the Year in 2022.
“Joining the UVM hockey program is an incredible honor and opportunity,” Krug said. “I can’t wait to bring my passion and experience to help our players win games, compete for championships and develop into professionals.”
Before joining Adrian’s coaching staff, Krug served as an assistant and associate coach with the United States Hockey League’s Indiana Ice. He helped the organization win the 2014 Clark Cup and assisted 30 players in earning Division I scholarships, with four later selected in the NHL Draft.
The Livonia, Michigan, native played Division I hockey at Wayne State before transferring to Adrian. Krug became the first captain in Bulldogs program history and recorded 129 points in two seasons, which ranks seventh on Adrian’s career scoring list.
