Minnesota’s boat took on a little bit of water in 2020 but the boat is still rowing in the right direction. After winning 11 games in 2019, the Golden Gophers went just 3-4 in 2020, but covid opt outs and injuries played a role in that too. Now, hopefully both of those things will not be an issue, Minnesota will bounce back in 2021. The Golden Gophers return nine starters on offense including a big three of QB Tanner Morgan, RB Mohamed Ibrahim (Big Ten RB of the Year), and WR Chris Autman-Bell who will become the top WR after the loss of Rashod Bateman. The defense returns six starters and the biggest area of concern is stopping the run. Minnesota allowed 207.1 RYPG (102nd nationally) but that number should improve with LB Mariano Sori-Marin returning as the leading tackler from last year. PJ Fleck has quickly changed the culture and expectations in Minneapolis and with a talented team and favorable schedule, he should be able to live up to those expectations in 2021.
