On Saturday, May 4, 2019 the 145th Kentucky Derby was held in Louisville, KY. The ECHL Central Division potential elimination game was held in Cincinnati, OH. The distance spanning between the two locations is approximately 100 miles.
I was invited to a Kentucky Derby party. Never before have I participated in this Derby Day watch. Though, I did not put any money on this event, it taught me a valuable lesson. This is an event that will be etched in my mind as: “It’s not over until it is, RE-watched over.” There was over 150,000 people at this literal mudslinging event.
A festive hat is often worn at the derby. I participated in wearing a festive hat, crafted by my mom. A “Fancy Hat Party” was held at the The Heights Toledo restaurant in downtown Toledo to celebrate the occasion locally.
The hostess of the event I attended served Mint Juleps in iced Pewter glasses. The discussion surrounding the drink was which sweetener to add. The powdered sugar was preferred to a liquid syrup. I think we should have tried adding tea, as a recipe suggested. This strong drink sends taste buds “off to the races.”
The Toledo Walleye eliminated the Cincinnati Cyclones in Cincinnati. Now they will meet the Tulsa Oilers over the Mother’s Day weekend in Toledo. It is exciting to see the month of May hosting hockey in downtown Toledo. Then they will be heading to Oklahoma. Where I am hoping for “beautiful mornings and everything to go their way”.
