Waterberg Wilderness – your world of experience at the Waterberg.

Activities

Plateau Hike (8h00, 2-3 hours, moderately difficult)
Your hiking guide will climb onto the plateau with you, show you tracks of the animals and explain the traditional use of the plants along the way. Terrific view of the valley and the endless plains of the Kalahari.

“Honeymoon Sundowner” (16h00, 2-3 hours, moderately difficult)
Not only for Honeymooners: The exclusive Plateau Hike in the afternoon. Have the Waterberg all to yourself and enjoy your sundowner on Mount Olympus at the edge of the Kalahari.

Waterberg Wilderness – Experiences

Rhino Drive (16h00, 2-3 hours)
Round trip through the African bush savannah at the foot of the Waterberg. We almost always rub shoulders with rhino. With a little luck you will encounter game such as giraffe, oryx and eland, red hartebeest, blue wildebeest and kudu.

Rhino Tracking (8h00, 3-4 hours, fitness is a must)
Doing it like the bushmen. Guided by your tracker you will explore our nature reserve at the foot of the Waterberg and detect game such as oryx or red hartebeest, kudu or giraffe.
Prepare yourself to encounter white rhinos – at eye level.
Pre-bookings for the Rhino Drive and the Rhino Tracking are limited in order to make it possible also for our guests on site to decide to join. We therefore recommend that you arrive before 15:00.

To protect our rhinos and other game from poachers, we have a game fence and guarded gates on the thoroughfare. In addition there is a “Rhino Patrol” who tracks down the rhinos day by day and also informs our guides. The revenues from these activities help us to fund the protection of our game.

Cultural Tour: Hereroland (8h00, approx. 5 hours)
Excursion with Namibian guide to culture and everyday life of the OvaHerero people on a small farm and in the town of Okakarara. Taste typical Namibian food such as Kapana (grilled meat) and vetkoek (a type of doughnut). The tour is done in your own vehicle. Week days only, not during school holidays. Reservations essential until 13h00 on the previous day.

Nature Trails (1 – 5.3 km; easy to moderately difficult)
Explore the valley of the nature reserve on your own: Five demarcated paths lead through the bottom of the valley and along the slopes of the Waterberg.
With a little luck, you will encounter Damara Dik Diks, kudus or rock dassies. We recommend sturdy shoes, a hat and a bottle of water.

“Botanical Garden” (2.4 km; easy, optional path moderately difficult)
With about 500 plant species, the Waterberg is regarded as one of the flora hotspots in southern Africa. On the trails to the spring at the top of the valley, small boards introduce trees and shrubs along the path. Large display boards tell stories about the spring and two parrot species occurring at the Waterberg.

History Path (2.2 km; easy, moderately difficult in some places)
Take a walk back in history to a site of the Battle of Waterberg 1904 and to a camp for Herero refugees (1906) – events that influence Namibian-German relations till today.
Information boards outline and explain the unfolding of the shared history of Herero and Germans.
