Adrian College has never lost to Trine University in 10 all-time meetings, and has now won 301 total games in program history. Freshman Connor May had two goals among three points in his Adrian College debut as the Bulldogs doubled up visiting Trine, 6-3.
The contest was the first official NCAA hockey game of the 2020-21 campaign at any division level on Friday evening. The Bulldogs have won 14 games in a row dating to last season.
Junior Trevor Coykendall and sophomore Alessio Luciani each chipped in a goal and an assist for a two-point night. Classmate Sam Ruffin led all centermen with 12 face-off wins and 19 draws.
Junior Zach Goberis (1G) and freshmen Dawson Ellis (1G), Mathew Rehding (1A), Jacob Breckles (1) all registered at least one point in their Adrian Bulldogs debut. Senior Cameron Gray (W, 1-0) turned aside 23 of 26 shots faced for the win.
Former Adrian skater Jared Domin recorded a hat-trick to lead the Thunder offense. Brendan Prappas was credited with a pair of assists. Sophomore goalie Aaron Brickman made 37 saves in his first career start.

Adrian outscored Trine 3-1 in the third period to pull away from a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes. May scored his second goal of the game at the 11:24 mark that proved to be the game-winner. That ignited a flurry of four goals combined within a span of 6-minutes, 48-seconds as Domin found the back of the net for the Thunder and Luciani/Ellis scored for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs outshot the Thunder 43 to 26 for the game. Domin gave Trine a 1-0 lead just 62 seconds after the opening face-off. But May answered for Adrian at the 4:43 mark on a feed from Luciani after Trine turned the puck over in its zone.
Coykendall scored a quick goal for Adrian to begin the second period–59 seconds–to give AC its first lead, 2-1. Goberis made it 3-1 at 12:10 and Domin scored 3:17 later as the stanza ended with the Bulldogs up 3-2.
Adrian has never lost to Trine in 10 all-time meetings (10-0-0). This marked the 301st victory in Adrian program history. The Bulldogs are 301-57-20 since their founding in 2007-08. Adrian is now 5-2 in season openers, including 6-1 in home openers, during the Adam Krug ’12 coaching era.
Adrian is back on the ice on Thursday (7:05 p.m.) when it hosts another NCHA foe Concordia-Wisconsin in a non-conference affair, also at Arrington Ice Arena.
