The Toledo Walleye started the first two periods of the first Kelly Cup game in Newfoundland, Canada scoreless. They needed all the way to the third period to get their land legs. Which would be a side effect of the ferry ride to get to the Island. They would shake off their sea legs by the third period, to make it 3-3, to end the third period.
Crane was the first scorer to “lift” a point onto the board. The second was by Berschbach, who was honored with a commemorative bobblehead earlier in the season. The third was by Wolfe, the step up in team play was convincing of a “wolfed” down victory. But with seven games possible, this is just the beginning.
The home field advantage Growlers, barked up three points by leading scorer O’Brien and ECHL Freshman Elynuik, each with one point. Another ECHL Freshman Kestner would donate two points, one in regulation and one in overtime to end the first game.
