East Hamilton Basketball Season Ends in Regionals

High School Sports

District 6-AAA champion East Hamilton High School has seen their season come to an end. The Hurricanes fell in the first round of the Region 3-AAA tournament to fourth-seeded Austin East, 55-48. Shane Cherry’s offensive explosion and the defense of the Roadrunners were simply too much for the Hurricanes to overcome.

The Canes finish their season with a slew of accolades and highlights, from individual success and awards, to impressive team statistics. The players also received an incredible amount of attention from recruiters, large in part thanks to phenom Cade Pendelton, who stands at 6-10. Pendelton and the Hurricanes were visited by and scouted by schools such as UNC, WVU, Maryland, Iowa, BYU, Utah St, Morehead State, Yale, Bucknell, Lehigh and several others.

East Hamilton is the first Basketball Program in Chattanooga to be invited to the Arby’s Classic since Shulman took McCallie in 2016. East Hamilton is the first public school from Chattanooga to get an invite to the Arby’s Classic Tournament since Brainerd High School finished 5th overall back in1989.

East Hamilton played a recognizably difficult schedule this year. Teams like Farragut, Knox Christian, Alcoa, Dobyns-Bennett, and Tabernacle Baptist served as a measuring stick for the Ooltewah, Tennessee program. It also left their record with a bit of a deceptive appearance for other public schools in the area.

East Hamilton finishes their season with an overall record of 19-11. The program went 11-1 in district play, and best Red Bank for the district championship just last week. The Hurricanes will look to Andy Webb and a talented returning roster to fuel their success going into their campaign next season.
