The Adrian College basketball team put up a fight on national television against the Eastern Michigan Eagles. This was the Bulldog’s second game of the season against a DI opponent. The Bulldogs trailed by a large margin at halftime and dropped the competition to the Eagles by a score of 95-35.
In the first half, Adrian struggled to break the early full court press by the Eagles. The Bulldogs went down 5-0, before Kendall Bellamy hit a jumper to put Adrian on the board. EMU went on a 13-0 run before allowing the Bulldogs to score again on a jumper from Dariyus Wooten. Wooten and Bellamy continued the scoring for Adrian with a free throw and a pair of three-pointers. The Bulldogs went into halftime trailing 64-19.
At the end of 20 minutes, Bellamy led Adrian with 10 points while Connor Pelham had four, Wooten three, and Robert Warrick two.
Bulldogs started the second half forcing a pair of turnovers and picking up baskets from Tyler Gillery and Warrick. Adrian worked out its kinks and was able to find the open shots, but couldn’t get much to fall. Adrian went scoreless for five straight minutes before Michael Williams hit a jumped from the corner to break the dry spell. On the next possession, Gabe McDevitt added to the scoring with a layup and drawing the foul. The Bulldogs picked up the defense forcing three straight scoreless EMU possessions heading into a media timeout.
With 7:21 remaining in the game, Adrian’s leading scorer, Bellamy, fouled out of the game after picking up four fouls in the first half and one in the second.
Daryius Wooten continued his scoring, driving down the lane and laying the ball of the glass for two, followed by an Adrian stop and a Nolan Ansara bucket. The Bulldogs trailed 88-33 with four minutes to play. Adrian began to empty its bench trailing late in the game. Jonathan Duvall picked up a steal and found Ben Pacer for an easy fast break layup.
Bellamy finished with a team-high 10 points followed by Wooten who had five. Warrick, McDevitt, and Pelham finished with four.
