Chattanooga FC Women Set to Open 2024 WPSL Season Against Nashville Rhythm

Chattanooga FC Women will begin their 2024 WPSL campaign against Nashville Rhythm FC this Friday, May 24, at 7:00 p.m. ET at Finley Stadium.

In their last encounter, Nashville led 2-0 in the first half, but Chattanooga FC Women rallied to equalize in a 2-2 draw despite rainy conditions. This year marks the second consecutive season these teams will face off in the opener.

New signings will be pivotal for Chattanooga FC Women. Angela Gatto, an All-American defender, is set to strengthen the backline, while the attacking front will be led by Juliette Lucas, reigning University of Charleston Freshman of the Year, and Guyanese international Annalisa Vincent.

Head coach Tom Halsall shared his thoughts on the upcoming match: “Nashville are good. I know their coach well from collegiate competition. They always field a strong team, but we have a solid squad this year. Our players are ready to play and win.”

Regarding the squad’s preparation, Halsall added, “We’ve brought together a diverse group of players from various levels across the country and the world. This blend creates a unique culture and the technical ability and mindset of our players are very exciting. I believe this will set us apart.”

Nashville Rhythm FC enters the game with momentum from a 4-0 victory against Atlanta Fire United in their season opener. NRFC has secured three consecutive first-place finishes in the WPSL Southeastern Conference.

Forward Angeline Kieh, who scored a hat-trick against AFU, currently leads the conference in goals. Emma Brown also scored, with assists from Sachiko Gamo, Wakaba Kogure, and Miku Kayama. NRFC went undefeated in 2023 until they were narrowly defeated by the Charlotte Eagles in the WPSL Regional Championship.
