LAFAYETTE, Ga. | NSBNsports.com | October 17th, 2025 — Heritage and LaFayette meet Friday night in a pivotal Region 7-AAA clash that could shape the postseason race in Northwest Georgia. The Generals (5-2, 2-1) return home looking to build on last week’s 29–14 win over Gilmer, while the Ramblers (4-4, 1-3) are fighting to stay alive in the playoff hunt after dropping two straight.

Heritage has found its stride behind the dual-threat play of junior quarterback Hight, who’s thrown for 1,459 yards and eight touchdowns while adding mobility in the pocket. Senior running back Slaughter powers the ground game with 956 yards and 12 scores, averaging more than 130 rushing yards per game. When Hight goes to the air, he spreads it among a deep receiving corps led by Fletcher (445 yards) and Bryan (465 yards, 3 TDs). The Generals’ offense averages over 25 points per contest and has shown the ability to finish drives with balance.

Defensively, Heritage leans on linebacker James (65 tackles) and edge rusher Hudson (7 tackles for loss), while junior Chappelear brings pressure up front. The Generals have forced 11 takeaways this season, including three interceptions from junior Foster. Their ability to limit explosive plays will be tested against a LaFayette squad that thrives on misdirection and second-level runs.

For LaFayette, senior quarterback Daxton Edwards has quietly been a steady presence, throwing for 356 yards and three touchdowns while leading an offense that prefers to grind out possessions. Senior Williams and junior Walden pace the rushing attack, combining for more than 400 yards and five scores, while sophomore Penson has emerged as a dynamic multipurpose threat. The Ramblers’ defense, led by senior standout Huggins (77 tackles, 8 TFL, 1 sack) and linebacker English (66 tackles), will need to contain Slaughter’s cutback lanes and win on third down to stay within striking distance.

For Heritage, maintaining offensive rhythm through Hight’s decision-making and Slaughter’s downhill power will be critical. LaFayette must control the tempo, sustain drives behind its running game, and avoid turnovers against a ball-hawking Generals defense. Field position could swing momentum early, especially with both teams capable of capitalizing on short fields.
