Maryland is quite the anomaly going into 2021. Mike Locksley enters year three in College Park with arguably his best team yet after a 2-3 season in 2020. Taulia Tagovailoa returns at QB to lead an offense that returns eight starters including all four of his top pass catchers from last season. Dan Enos is in at OC and if history is any indication, Tagovailoa and the offense should take a big step forward after averaging just 23.6 PPG. The defense returns six starters from a unit that allowed 230 RYPG in 2020 (115th in the nation). The strength defensively, though, is in the secondary where everyone is back. The Terrapins allowed just 200 PYPG which was good for third in the Big Ten and 25th nationally. Maryland tends to start fast under Locksley (2-0 start in 2019 and 2-1 start in 2020) but fizzle out towards the end. With a favorable first part of the schedule but a difficult conference schedule, that could very well be the case again in 2021 where Maryland will be a much better team than their final record indicates.
