Even though the Washington Football Team is in first place in the NFC East, Dan Snyder is not having a great time. TMZ Sports first reported a minority owner of the team tried to extort him into selling the NFL franchise.
The extortion campaign by one of the franchise’s minority owners came to light due to a court filing Wednesday in Maryland. Snyder’s filing, in U.S. District Court in southern Maryland, accuses one of the team’s minority partners, Dwight Schar.
Snyder made the filing one day after a Washington Post story reported further details of a $1.6 million settlement the franchise paid to a former employee over a sexual misconduct allegation in 2009. Snyder says Schar is well aware an independent investigation found no evidence of wrongdoing.
In the filing he claims Schar repeatedly leaked info about the case to the Washington Post and other media outlets, attempting to smear him.
Snyder said there have been repeated threats by Schar and others associated with him over the past few months. Snyder said Schar threatened “my personal attorney” in a conversation in July.
In the documents Synder says โI am fighting on multiple fronts for interests that go beyond just me, including for the Team that I love, as well as my family, and can swear to this Court that the accusations I improperly leaked information to the press are false.โ
