College football is beginning to look like a reality. The NCAA has cleared the path for football programs, along with men’s and women’s basketball. Their most recent move means schools can allow on-campus voluntary workouts as early as June 1st. The NCAA then approved in a follow-up vote that all sports may return to their respective campuses on the same date.
The decision is only a guideline, however, and conferences and schools will make their own decisions based on guidance from state and local health officials as they continue to battle the coronavirus pandemic.
The SEC became the first major conference to move forward with plans to return student-athletes to campus. The Big 12 announced it will allow football players to use campus facilities for voluntary workouts.
Individual schools are moving forward with plans and have made announcements on when they will allow student-athletes to return to their campuses for the first time since March.
